AN UNKNOWN IMMIGRANT

ON ELLIS ISLAND

Like many others, 100 years ago,
she didn't write poems,
and maybe could not write at all,
I found her on Ellis Island:

With an amazing line # 24,
on the List of Manifest of Aliens,
we can image this young lady,
with difficult first name Genowefa:

All written by hands with different letters:
21 years old, 5 feet 4 inches, br. hair, bl. eyes;

it's all there about her and her life history,
what nature gave us to imagination as a gift,

We can tell she was a brave, young woman
and 100 years ago going over 3000 miles
over the ocean, looking for better life.
like millions of immigrants before her.

We can also see that leaving in her homeland

was her family and mom Jozefa,
and she was going to uncle John in the U.S.,

And also these threatening words on manifest,

giving some thoughts about those days on ship:
"SALOON, CABIN, AND STEERAGE ALIENS
MUST BE COMPLETELY MANIFESTED".

Did she find her dreams in America?
How was her wonderful and difficult life?
What traditions did she give to her children there?
Was she happy in her new life?

Most tackled also prose after immigration,
sending letters to theirs they left behind,
their families wrote back about hard times

and asked for letters and money,
they wrote back describing all suffering and hard life
after coming to this new world America,
but sent all money to them they could.

We, from 21st century, with every morning many
are thinking only about how to attack and kill,
we must try to preserve all their memories,

family history, heritage and hopes.

Her beloved homeland is somewhere in Europe,
this paper trail gives last residence as the U.S.A.,
and the ethnicity as Russia-Polish,
but it's not fully true, like many points in our lives.
